Background: It is extremely important that health promotion professionals publish their findings in the peer reveiwed literature. Increasingly journals require submitted findings to have ethics approval. This seminar aims to make authors and reviewers more familiar with the peer-reviewed process and the importance and role of ethics approval.

Methods:  The Editors of the Health Promotion Journal of Australia will present an overview of how editorial processes work; outline recent developments in journal publishing; and the ethics of publishing. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions, make comments or discuss troublesome issues.

Results/Discussions: The topics of discussion may include:
a) Authors - guidance for new authors submitting an article to a journal.
b) Reviewers - essential components of the peer review process and understanding how to respond effectively to reviewer comments.
c) Recent developments in journal publishing and the increased emphasis on the ethics of publishing.

Conclusions/implications: The seminar will lead to a better understanding by authors and reviewers of the journey of a manuscript through the peer-review process to publication.
